What will be required
To enable me to do my job, and if I do not know you,
you will need to bring with you a passport and another document,
perhaps a letter, linking you to your UK address.
This information will enable me to be satisfied of
your identity and to attest that you have appeared before me, signed
a document in front of me, sworn an oath before me, or whatever.
If you are signing a document in a particular capacity,
for example as a Company Director or Secretary, I will also need
evidence of your appointment. The best evidence is sight of the
Company books and the last Annual Return of the Company. Sometimes
a letter from the Company will do but it depends to a certain extent
on what I am being asked to do. If you are in doubt please call
me so that we can decide how best to proceed.
Sometimes documents require special formalities. For
example Deeds for use in India or Pakistan will require two witnesses
in addition to the notary. It is better to talk to me when making
an appointment so that I can ensure that the document can be dealt
with at the due time.
